# About Library Collections

A collection is a subset of a catalogue. Its function is to hold all the individual items related to it. To add a collection to a library click here.

Examples for this are:

- a training course that has a DVD and pamphlet.

- a song that has an mp3, chord sheet and notes.

In these examples the collection holds the items:

*A book library could have a collection based on genre of book e.g. fiction, non fiction, sport, prayer etc.*

*A music library could have a catalogue called funeral songs, the collections would be the songs and under each song could be items relating to it.*
