It tells infoodle where to place the header, footer, and body text, and sets your page margins. You can also use it to add your letterhead, logo, or seasonal artwork. Every receipt and statement template requires a design — even a blank one — before it will work. --- ## Before you start #### Role permissions - **Finance role permission:** required to access **Finance → Receipt**. #### What you need - If you are uploading a PDF, it must be in **A4 portrait** format (or DL if printing to envelopes) and no larger than **3 MB**. - If your document is in Word format, save it to PDF using **Save as Adobe PDF** or **Print to Adobe PDF** — do not use Microsoft's built-in Print to PDF, as this can produce a file with incorrect dimensions that infoodle will reject. - If you do not have Adobe, you can download Adobe Reader for free (untick the optional offers during installation). #### Design or template — which adds the logo? You have two options: | Where to add your logo / letterhead | What it means | | --- | --- | | In the **design** (this article) | Upload a PDF with your branding already on it. infoodle prints the receipt or statement content over the top. | | In the **receipt or statement template** | Leave the design blank and add your logo in the template's header/footer section instead. | Either approach works. If you choose to add your logo in the template rather than the design, you still need to create a design (even a blank one) to set your margins. --- ## Step 1 — Open Designs 1. Click **Finance** on the Navigation Menu. 2. Click **Receipt**. (You will need the Finance role permission to access this.) 3. Click **Manage templates**. 4. Click **Designs**. 5. Click **Add**. ![Image](https://cdn.document360.io/d198920d-a212-4177-85f9-e1abc92e7ab3/Images/Documentation/image-C06QDM99.png) --- ## Step 2 — Choose your design type You will be asked to choose between two options: - **The design is empty** — creates a blank design with no background. Choose this if you plan to add your logo and letterhead inside the receipt or statement template itself. Skip to Step 4. - **Upload single page PDF including design** — uploads a PDF to use as the background. Continue with Step 3. --- ## Step 3 — Upload your PDF 1. Click **Upload** a file. 2. Select the PDF you want to upload and click **Open**. > Note: The file must be PDF format, A4 portrait size, and no larger than 3 MB. If you see an error about incorrect dimensions, you will need to convert the PDF to A4 using a PDF editing program before uploading. --- ## Step 4 — Name and configure the design 1. Enter a **Name** for the design so you can identify it later. 2. Set the **Paper size**. The default is A4. If you are printing directly to envelopes, select DL — but only use this design with a template specifically for printing recipient addresses on envelopes. 3. Set the **Where to place the content** margins (header, footer, body). > Important: If you want to include content in the header or footer of your receipt or statement, do not leave the header and footer values at 0mm. If you do, the header or footer content will be omitted, and you will see an error in your receipt or statement template screen that reads "Header not enabled for Default Design". 1. Click **Save**. ![Image](https://cdn.document360.io/d198920d-a212-4177-85f9-e1abc92e7ab3/Images/Documentation/image-VI9LGYXO.png) --- ## What to do next Your design is now ready to use. The next step is to attach it to a receipt or statement template: - [Adding a Receipt or Statement Template](/v1/docs/adding-a-receipt-template) You can also create an **alternate design** — for example, a Christmas design or campaign design — which can be set to apply only during a specific time period. Follow the same steps above and give it a distinct name so you can tell it apart from your default design. --- ## Common questions #### Do I need a design even if I don't want a background image? Yes. Every receipt and statement template requires a design to set the page margins. If you don't want a background, choose The design is empty in Step 2 — this creates a blank design that still lets infoodle calculate your margins correctly. #### I uploaded my PDF but got an error about incorrect dimensions. Your PDF is not saved in A4 portrait size. Open it in a PDF editing program and convert it to A4 before uploading again. If you created the document in Word, make sure you use Save as Adobe PDF rather than Microsoft's Print to PDF option. #### My receipt or statement shows an error saying *"Header not enabled for Default Design".* The header or footer margin values in your design are set to 0mm. Open the design, update the Where to place the content values so the header and/or footer have a height greater than 0mm, and save. #### What is the DL paper size for? DL is an envelope size. Only select it if you are printing recipient names and addresses directly onto envelopes to post receipts. Use a separate design and template for this — do not use a DL design for standard receipts. #### Can I have more than one design? Yes. You can have a default design plus one or more alternate designs. An alternate design is useful when you need a different background for a specific time period or campaign, such as a Christmas letterhead. Set it up the same way and assign it to your template when needed. --- Related articles [Adding a Receipt or Statement Template](/v1/docs/adding-a-receipt-template) [Receipt Template Personalisations](/v1/docs/receipt-template-personalisations) [Receipt Template Examples](/v1/docs/receipt-template-examples) [Generating Receipts](/v1/docs/generating-receipts) [Checks Prior to Receipting](/v1/docs/checks-prior-to-receipting) ## Related - [Adding a Receipt or Statement Template](/adding-a-receipt-template.md) - [Receipt Template Personalisations](/receipt-template-personalisations.md) - [Receipt Template Examples](/receipt-template-examples.md) - [Generating Receipts](/generating-receipts.md) - [Checks Prior to Receipting](/checks-prior-to-receipting.md)
