# Assigning a User a Role & Login

Before someone can access infoodle they need to be added to infoodle as a contact, assigned a role, and issued a login username and password.

### Assigning a user a role

#### Before you begin:

Have you added the users to infoodle? Have you created the roles?

*Only an infoodle administrator with the permissions of **Create Accounts and Roles** and **List All Roles** can create roles.*

### How to assign a user a role?

1. Go to the **profile page** of the person you want to assign a role to
2. Confirm they have an **email address** and that it is **active**
3. Click on the **settings cog icon** in the top left next to the person's name

4. Click **settings** from the menu
5. Select the **role** from the dropdown list
6. Set **login is active** to **yes**
7. Finally, click **save**

Note, this will save the settings and refresh the page. You will then see a new button **Send Password Setup Email** near the top of the user settings, indicating this user is now available for sending a login setup to. ![Image](https://cdn.document360.io/d198920d-a212-4177-85f9-e1abc92e7ab3/Images/Documentation/image-YG50PHSS.png)

**PLEASE NOTE:**

The Password Setup link is only Valid for 24 hours from the time that the Password setup email is sent to the user so ensure that the person will be available to set this up within that timeframe. An admin can re-send a new password setup email at any time if needed.
