There is no undo. Before you delete, consider whether you should **expire** or **hibernate** the group instead — both preserve the group's history and data while marking it inactive. See [Hibernating or Expiring a Group](/v1/docs/hibernating-and-expiring-a-group) for details. --- ## What you need to know - You must have Administrator permission on the group to delete it - You cannot delete a group that has subgroups. You must first reassign or expire the subgroups. (See Groups and Nested Groups for how to move subgroups.) - Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone - All group history, membership records, custom fields, and attendance data are deleted along with the group --- ## Steps to delete a group 1. Go to **Groups** in the left navigation. 2. Search for or **select** the group you want to delete. 3. Click **Edit** (top right of the screen). ![Image](https://cdn.document360.io/d198920d-a212-4177-85f9-e1abc92e7ab3/Images/Documentation/image-LMSOQEHA.png) 4. Scroll to the bottom and click the **Delete** button. ![Image](https://cdn.document360.io/d198920d-a212-4177-85f9-e1abc92e7ab3/Images/Documentation/image-77HIE6L5.png) 5. If you don't see the Delete button, you don't have **Administrator permission** on this group. Ask your organisation's admin. 6. A confirmation dialog appears. Click Yes to confirm the deletion, or No to cancel. ![Image](https://cdn.document360.io/d198920d-a212-4177-85f9-e1abc92e7ab3/Images/Documentation/image-FYP986TZ.png) The group is permanently deleted. You'll be returned to the Groups list. --- ## Alternatives to deleting If you want to preserve the group's history, member records, or attendance data, **do not delete**: | If you want to... | Do this instead | | --- | --- | | Mark a group as no longer active, but keep its data | Expire the group or Hibernate the group | | Remove a single person from a group | Remove them from the group (their membership history is preserved) | | Change a person's status without removing them | Edit their group permission to "Past Member" (they retain all associated data) | Related Pages [About Groups](/v1/docs/about-groups) [Hibernating or Expiring a Group](/v1/docs/hibernating-and-expiring-a-group) [Removing a Person from a Group](/v1/docs/removing-a-person-from-a-group) [Sub-groups](/v1/docs/subgroups) ## Related - [Hibernating and Expiring a Group](/hibernating-and-expiring-a-group.md) - [Subgroups](/subgroups.md)
