In infoodle, a person can belong to more than one household or organisation at the same time. This is useful when someone has connections to multiple households — for example, a person who is part of their own family but is also a key contact at a business or community organisation.
When a person is linked to an additional household, they appear in both household records. Their primary household is their main address and is used for receipts and correspondence. Any additional households they belong to are listed separately on their profile.
Before You Begin
- You must have edit permission for the person's contact record.
- The person must already exist in infoodle before linking them to an additional household.
- This feature links an existing person to an existing household. If the household does not yet exist, you will need to create it first.
Adding a Person to an Additional Household
- Search for and open the person's profile page.
- Click the settings cog (⚙️) alongside their name at the top of the page.
- Select Add to additional household (or Add to additional organisation, depending on your site's view) from the menu.
- A search box will appear — type the name of the household or organisation you want to link this person to.
- Select the correct household from the search results.
- The person is now linked to the additional household. You can repeat this process to link them to more than one additional household.
Viewing Additional Households on a Profile
Once a person has been linked to one or more additional households, a section labelled Also part of this household (or Also part of these households if there are multiple) appears at the bottom of their profile page. Each linked household is listed with its name and address.
When viewing the other household's profile, members who have that household as an additional (secondary) household are shown with a down arrow (↓) beside their name in the household members list. This distinguishes them from primary members of that household.
Managing Additional Household Links
To edit or remove an additional household link:
- Open the person's profile page.
- Scroll down to the Also part of this/these households section.
- Click the Edit button in the top-right corner of that section.
- A pencil icon (✏️) will appear beside each linked household — click it to open the edit options.
- You can then choose to:
- Make this the primary household — sets this household as the person's main household, replacing their current primary
- Remove the link to this household — removes the person from this additional household entirely
- Primary household matters for finance — receipts and correspondence are sent to the primary household. If a person's main address has changed, use Make this the primary household rather than removing and re-adding the link.
- The down arrow (↓) in a household member list means that person's primary household is elsewhere — they are linked here as a secondary member.
- Moving vs linking — if you want to permanently move a person to a new household (not link them to an additional one), use Move to another household from the settings cog menu instead. See Moving a Person to Another Household for more information.
- Privacy — if a household has a private name or address, this will be respected when showing the household in the additional households list.
