A bulk run membership with no payment recorded is reminded, then cancelled the day after its period ends. One paid in instalments is chased instead. Each email named here is sent only when the run's emails are enabled, but the cancellation happens either way. For how members pay, see Collecting payment after a bulk run.
Reminders
A membership paid in one payment with nothing recorded is sent Membership Payment Reminder (Bulk Run) 3, 7 and 14 days after its due date, while its period is running. After the third reminder is sent it appears on the Needs attention tab of Membership Reports.
From the Membership screen click Reports

and from the reports screen click Needs Attention

A part-paid membership is not reminded and never cancelled automatically. It goes to Needs attention straight away for you to settle or cancel.
Cancellation at the end of the period
If nothing is recorded by the end of the period, the membership is cancelled the next day, even when the run's emails were off. When they were on, the holder is sent Membership Cancelled: Unpaid. If it had a Xero invoice, the office is told to void or credit it, and the run's page lists it under Cancelled, Xero invoice open.
Record Xero payments in infoodle before the period ends. A membership with no payment recorded in infoodle is cancelled the day after its period ends, even if Xero shows the invoice as paid. Its member isn't told it was cancelled, and the office is emailed a list to sort out.
Instalments
When the product's longest payment frequency is shorter than the period (e.g. an annual membership that is paid monthly), each instalment after the first is asked for by Instalment Due on its day and chased by Instalment Overdue 3, 7 and 14 days later. Then the membership is put on hold (Failed), the office is told and the member is sent Instalment Not Received. An annual payment on a product with payment days is chased the same way.
These memberships get none of the reminders above and are not cancelled at the end of the period. See Membership Payment Schedule.
Reinstate a membership paid after it was cancelled
First check that a later run hasn't already given the member a membership for the next period. Reinstating as well leaves them owing for that period twice, and on a Xero run the newer membership has its own open invoice too. If it has, return the money instead.
- Open the membership, for example from the View membership icon on its row of the run's page. Click Reinstate, then Reinstate again in the dialog.
- Record the payment against it, or return the money instead of reinstating.
Reinstating a membership whose period has ended rolls it into the next period at today's rates and makes it Active, with that period's fee owed, so check the amount first. No invoice or reminder is sent for that period, so collect it yourself.
On a Xero run, these payments are listed under Paid in Xero after cancelled, and the office is emailed.
